Which method does the body fat calculator use?

The tool applies the classic U.S. Navy method based on the logarithmic relationship between height and circumference measurements. It uses neck and waist for men, plus hips for women.

How should I take the measurements?

Keep the tape level and snug without compressing the skin. Measure the neck just below the larynx, the waist after a normal exhale, and, for women, the hips at their widest point. Repeat measurements for consistency.

How accurate is the result?

Circumference methods provide a practical estimate but are affected by measurement technique and body shape. They are not as precise as professional methods such as DEXA.

Why is a hip measurement required for women?

The method uses separate equations to reflect typical differences in fat distribution; the equation for women includes both waist and hip circumference.
